Amber Flag

The Pieta Amber Flag Initiative recognises the individual efforts of primary and secondary schools, youthreach, third level institutions, community groups and clubs to create healthy, inclusive environments that support mental well-being.
Lanesborough Primary School will be applying for the Pieta Amber Flag during this school year. We hope to be involved in initiatives throughout the school year that promote well-being and positive mental health
Our aims and objectives are…
  • To create Amber Flag notice boards in the school, promoting positive mental health strategies.
  • To hold a fundraising event for Pieta House and a Wellbeing Week to promote positive mental health in our school
  • To organise a six week Yoga Journey for all classes.
  • To hold a ‘Design a Poster’ competition within the school to raise awareness of positive mental health strategies.

Yoga

Our six week Yoga for schools journey has commenced with Caroline from Bewell yoga. During this six week programme, we will embark on a journey around the world. Each week we will travel to faraway lands and on each adventure we will meet some of our favourite animals.
                                                                                     Week 1: The Forest
                                                                                     Week 2: The Ocean
                                                                                      Week 3 : The Jungle
                                                                                      Week 4: The Arctic
                                                                                      Week 5: The Desert
                                                                                      Week 6: Animal
Yoga helps reduce anxiety and stress in children. It helps improve focus, memory, self-esteem, academic performance. Yoga improves balance, strength, endurance, and aerobic capacity in children.

All Classes continue to complete the Daily Mile each day. The children enjoy it and participate happily.

Rainbow Breathing

Use this breath to develop focus and feel calm and awake for the day.
Sit up and let your spine grow tall
Bring your arms straight to the sides, palms down.
Inhale and sweep your arms up over your head, palm to palm.
Exhale and bring your arms back
Straight out to the sides, palms down.
Repeat three times

Sit up and let your spine grow tall.
