A huge thank you to Mark from Biodiversity in Schools who taught us all about the different types of bees found in Ireland. We learned about the job of a beekeeper and even got to try on a beekeeper's suit! We got to see the inside of a hive and learned about the hard job that bees have in making honey, (it takes one honey bee a year to make less than a teaspoon of honey!!) Mark showed us how to make biodegradable flowerpots out of newspaper and we planted some sunflower seeds in them! Finally we went out in search of some bees and amazingly managed to locate the rare solitary bee as well as a pretty huge bumblebee!
