Music

Lanesborough Primary School has had a strong tradition of music and musicality from the beginning . It is a tradition that we are proud of and we continue to encourage to this day. We aim to involve all pupils in some aspect of music, either in the school choir and/or playing an instrument.

School Choir

The school choir has always been in existence, right from the start,  but when Sr Consuella arrived in Lanesborough in 1979, the school was most fortunate. Her expertise, enthusiasm and interest in music were a huge asset to the whole school community and to the community at large.

Although Sr Consuella has retired, her dedication to the school remains. She continues to be our music co-ordinator and is available for all the occasions throughout the school year.

The school choir is involved in all the main liturgical events of the year, Christmas, Confirmation and Holy Communion. The annual school mass is also catered for with the choir.

Carol Service

The annual Carol Service is a highlight of the school year and signals the start of  Christmas preparations and celebrations in the locality. The carol service takes place in the church and all classes are involved. The Infant Classes start off proceedings with their own production which is then followed by 1st to 6th class performing their version of the First Christmas Story. The service includes both acting, singing and readings involving all.

Drumming Workshop

We endeavour to organise a Drumming Workshop annually to enable the pupils to experience using drums from different countries. The workshop also enables the pupils to tell a story using drums as the story-telling instrument. This event is enjoyed by all.

School Mass

As a Catholic Primary school we aim to have at least one school mass throughout the year. At this mass we invite all parents and extended family members to attend. The choir are involved and the pupils prepare the readings and share prayers of the faithful. For our annual Grandparent's Day we also begin our proceedings with mass in the St Mary's church.
