Hip Hop with Mary

May 2021
​Our hip hop dance teacher Mary has returned for 5 weeks. All pupils were thrilled to have Mary back. We will look forward to seeing some new creative dance moves....

Gaelic Football with Paddy from Longford Gaa

April 2021
​Gaelic Football has resumed again with Coach Paddy from Longford Gaa. He will take each class for 45 minutes every Thursday. Class Teachers will help and support Coach Paddy during the lessons.

All the classes in Lanesborough Primary School took part in the Operation Transformation initiative.
​  Great fun was had by all staff and children alike.

Swimming
3rd - 6th  have a block of swimming lessons at the start of each school year.(Sept -Oct)  Aquatics is an important part of the curriculum and all children are encouraged to take part with their class. 3rd & 4th take part in the Primary Aquatic Water Safety (PAWS) programme. Pupils take part in water safety lessons so that they can learn how to stay safe around water.

​The ​Daily Mile

We started the Daily Mile Challenge in September 2019. We continued this daily challenge for the academic year 2019/20. We recommenced the daily challenge again in September 2020 and it  created an ideal opportunity for classes to take movement breaks during the school day.

​Active School WalkWay

We were delighted to launch our new Active School Walkway. The walkway is 400 metres around the perimeter of our school. The new walkway will be used in many different ways to energise the school day. It will promote active learning through a variety of subject areas.


​Active Playgrounds
Each classroom received a basket full of PE equipment. This equipment can be used at break and lunch times. The children are having lots of fun trying out the equipment and making up different games.


​Active Lines
The children are enjoying the active lines. 
 Each class participates in the active lines at the end of break & lunch . We are hoping we will see an improvement in our fitness.
3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th have also enjoyed the bring Sally up squat challenge.



​Hurling 
Hurling training has resumed in preparation for the indoor hurling tournament in Newtownforbes Sports Hall. Each year our school enters two team into the tournament. The games run over several weeks. (Jan 2020)




​Sports Hall Athletics

Donal Mulligan from Longford Sports Partnership took the children from 3rd - 6th class for  5 weeks of Sports Hall Athletics. The students took part in their first ever Sports Hall Athletics competition in March 2020. All students had the opportunity  to take  part in various events in the Mercy Secondary School, Ballymahon. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to experience participating in events such as the javelin, long jump, etc. 




​Tag Rugby Tournament

 5th & 6th Class took part in a tag rugby tournament in Clontuskert Primary School. Fun day was had by all..
Nov 2019

 

Scavenger Hunt in Corlea
 3rd , 4th, 5th and 6th Class enjoyed their visit to Corlea Trackway Visitor Centre. During the visit they completed a scavenger hunt on the grounds of the centre and afterwards everyone took a walk up the board walk through the picturesque boglands.

Hip Hop

Mary, our hip hop dance teacher works with all classes from infants up to 6th class for a block of 5 weeks.  The classes get to perform a number of styles of dance from hip hop to zumba.  The hip hop is enjoyed by all students.

Football
Mr Corr is our GAA coach.  Girls & boys from 4th - 6th class can join the football team.  Training resumes each year in January. This training is after school one evening a week.



​Over the course of the programme a great number and range of physical activities were provided in Lanesborough Primary School including a full Active School Week.
