We have achieved the Blue Star award for our school! Many thanks to Maria Walsh MEP, Senator Michael Carrigy and Joe Flaherty TD for visiting our school to aid us in obtaining this certification. Our International/Europe Day was a great success and the senior classes really enjoyed the kahoot quizzes that Blue star flag emailed Mr Leonard. Well done everyone!

The Blue Star Flag is an education initiative for primary school pupils across Ireland. The idea of the Programme is simple: to foster better understanding and knowledge of the European Union and how it affects the lives of Irish citizens among primary pupils through classroom projects and activities. |
Maria Walsh MEP, Deputy Joe Flaherty and Senator Micheál Carrigy visit Lanesborough Primary School
On the 11th of March, Maria Walsh MEP visited Lanesborough Primary School. She was invited by Ms Murphy, Principal of Lanesborough Primary School, and by Rory Leonard who is coordinating the process for the Blue Star Programme of Europe.
The school is pursuing the Blue Star Flag, this programme is to foster better understanding and knowledge of the European Union and how it affects the lives of primary school children. As part of this initiative, schools are encouraged to invite politicians who could outline the policies and practices of the European Union.
Therefore, Maria Walsh MEP was asked to come to Lanesborough and to expand upon the important work that she and her colleagues do as members of the European parliament.
We were also visited by Senator Micheál Carrigy and Joe Flaherty TD. Each visitor provided a unique perspective on the work of the European Union.
