Trip to Sliabh Bawn

The children of 5th and 6th class had great fun on their recent trip to Sliabh Bawn. Many thanks to our tour guide Tom Costello from Coillte who gave us a very informative guide to how the wind farm works.
We learned that each turbine is 130m tall and even has a lift inside of it for the workers to carry out maintenance!
On our trek through the forest we got to see the Slieve Bawn Mass Rock which was used during Penal Times when it was forbidden for Catholics to attend mass or for priests to perform mass.
We also got to visit the summit where we were able to get a great view of Bord na Móna, the Shannon and even the power station beside the school! We also got to stand right next to a wind turbine and observe how tall they actually are. A great time was had by all!
